Youth Committee Update

Hello everyone and thank you for taking your time out of your busy schedule to read about what exciting activities  the Youth Committee have planned for our awesome youth of SSBC. (And our future SSBC youth).

This year has started with a leaders retreat. The members of the Youth Committee (which consists of leaders, helpers, and anyone who is actively participating in making the SSBC youth possible) a few of elders, and our pastor, got away for a few days to RRR (Relax, Recuperate, and Recharge). Everyone arrived to David Walley’s Hot Springs and Spa on Friday Feb 12, which gave some time to hang out, relax, and get away from the busy schedule. On Saturday, the Recharging began. The members all got together to make some really great plans for this following 2011 year for youth. We all met up at around 9 or 10 am for about half a day, and once again in the evening and discussed many things like the bike ride, youth camps, crusades, youth services, leaders, the youth census, monthly American services for youth and etc. Also, that day, we all have talked and we have chosen two more people to help out Denis. As we all know, Denis had a beautiful addition to his family, baby Mathew. Also, his kids have started to go to school, so he needs to take care of his family first. The people that we all have agreed on are Vladimir Lobkov, and Oleg Kabanov. They will have the same responsibility as Denis and will be able to make decisions and will replace Denis when he is unavailable. We ask that you welcome them with open arms and let them know if you have any questions or concerns. On Sunday, we all gathered again where girls made a special Valentine’s Day breakfast to let the guys know how much we appreciate and love them. Then we all packed our bags and went home fully recharged and ready to serve the youth and God this following year.

After Camp Update

Hello, campers! I hope everyone is well rested after our awesome camps this year. Both of these camps were very successful this year. Everyone, including myself, had an amazing time getting connected or re-connected with God and friends.

The High School Camp began with a division of people into 6 groups: Red (Path To Salvation), Orange (Holy Fireballs), Blue (Diversity) ,White (Friend of God), Black (Always Say A Prayer), and Green (Boys & Girls). The camp started out by getting acquainted with the leaders and their group members. The evening service consisted of each team presenting their teams and colors. Throughout the camp, campers had a chance to listen to our speaker, Leonid Karioglo, who was talking about David and his life, the 9 aspects of knowing God, and what a person needs to do when walking with God. The days flew by so fast that we didn’t even notice how fast camp was over! Fun games, crazy schedule, meeting new friends, hanging out by the campfire, oh, and who can forget that awesome food!

College Camp on the other hand, was more laid back than competitive. There was no point counting, no bedtime (for the first few nights at least), no morning exercise camp. With a 4-hour free time, leaders from high school camp FINALLY got a chance to relax and get their swim/tan/sleep sessions (thus our awesome tans :) ). Our speakers, Ivan Komarchuk, Valeriy Vode and guest speaker Ivan Pronin, covered important topics like, Fasting, God’s will, and many others. Praise God, we had 4 people that repented. During evening services, campers had a chance to participate with their own addition to the program. Overall, the camp gave a great chance to relax and reconnect with God.

Am I forgetting something? Hmmm….

Ah yes.

The winners for High School camp were not announced yet. But guess what! This Sunday, youth service will be especially dedicated to get RE:connected with your camp friends and to find out who the winners are! So, keep your fingers crossed, and come join us this Sunday at 8:30pm :)

March Youth Committee Update

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is the youth committee update for the month of March. We only had one meeting in February so there wasn’t much to post. This meeting, Denis began with the reading of Joshua 1. He talked about how Joshua was devoted to God, his obedience to God, and his devotion to Him. Also, he mentioned how Joshua was very diligent to his work, and how that relates to leadership.

January Youth Committee Update

Greetings everyone. 2009 has flown out the window, and 2010 has bestowed upon us. The Youth Committee had its first 2010 meeting on Jan, 12th, 2010. Denis started the meeting with a reading from John 17. After his discussion about the passage, we got right down to business.

Many new things are envisioned for this year.

Leader’s Retreat

  • One of the things that we have planned is the leader’s retreat that will happen this weekend, Friday through Sunday – January 22-24. Once a year, all leaders and helpers get together to develop new activities for entire youth of SSBC, and to have some fun and interact with each other. We will also have a guest speaker to talk about discipleship. The price for the retreat is $30 which is due to me (Yana Chuprov). If you cannot afford to pay, but know that you should go, funding can be provided, but you must talk to Denis. Eligibility for the retreat is anyone who is active with the youth, or whoever wants to be active. You must let me know by this Tuesday, since I am the one that is making the list of everyone going. Currently, we have 18 people who are registered to go, and the list is still growing. We will have another youth committee meeting this Tuesday (Jan. 19th) to discuss the leaders retreat. Anyone who is going to the retreat or interested, you are welcome to attend.

Membership meeting

  • Denis mentioned that we will have a church membership meeting for the whole church on Sunday, January 31. All members are required to attend.

New Year

  • We have discussed the New Year celebration that we had on the night of December 31st. we talked about the good and the bad and what could have been done to make it better. Things like:
    • The bad:
      • Disorganization
      • Some parts of the program
    • The good:
      • Decorations
      • The price ( $30 before December 23rd, $40 after)
      • Some parts of the program were really good
      • Participation of the youth
    • Plans for the future:
      • Work on the program to make it better
      • Have youth be more active with the program
      • Group members get discounts if they participate in the program
      • Have teams doing stuff for new years, and not a few people doing everything at once. (For example, a team for organization, video, lights, photos, music, etc.)

Crusades

  • This year, we want the numbers of crusades to increase. To have 3 to 4 crusades. We will be talking about the destinations a little later on in the year.

Summer Camp

  • This year, we have reserved the spot near Shasta Lake for 10 days. We will be having 2 camps this year – a High School and College camp. Campers in High School are allowed only in the high school camp. College age campers may attend either camp if they like. We will have more information later in the year.

Monday Bible Study

  • Unfortunately, Leo K, who wonderfully led our Bible studies every Monday, will be leaving us after he finishes the book of Luke. He will be moving back to Bryte. If anyone knows who is willing to take over his service, please let Denis know. Leo is a great leader, and will be missed greatly.

Wednesday small Groups

  • We have discussed Wednesday Youth Groups and what we can do to make them better. Committee members and guests mentioned that they liked how all the groups got together before the lesson and after in the main gym. Also, the lesson plan will be looked over, and see to it if we can make any changes.

Invitations

  • Our youth was invited to visit a rehabilitation center. The date is still unknown, but will be discussed during the Leader’s Retreat.

Suggestions

  • Denis asked if there were any suggestions for the youth ministry.
    • Commitment
      • Whoever began something in the youth, must stick to it and not quit.
      • Also, if possible, do not start many things, but rather, stay to whatever God calls you to, and see it through.
    • Spiritual
      • Focus more on the Spiritual food.
      • Random activities for youth are really great, but we must also give youth its spiritual food.
    • Leaders
      • A suggestion came in to have a leader’s prayer.
      • Whoever is active in the youth already knows that participating in the youth is hard, but it is very enjoyable if you are doing what God called you to do. Any prayers for all the leaders, helpers, and anyone who is currently active in our youth will be greatly appreciated.

November Youth Committee Update

SunriseHello, CALinChrist readers and guests. I am here once again to bring you the information from the youth committee that met on November 24, 2009. We had a lot of information to be discussed, so this post will have quite some material to read.

Our meeting began with an opening prayer and a reading from the Word to set our hearts in the right place. The passage that he read was: 1 Tim. 4:8, 10-11. Denis made a major emphasis on verse 10. People will always try to reproach you, but don’t get discouraged. It is God’s way of making you into His perfect image. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (1 Timothy 4:10). Also, do not ignore the words that were told to you. Pray so that God will help you see why that individual spoke to you.

The committee started with a question asked from one of the members of the committee. The question was pertaining to the price for the New Years. Why does everyone have to pay $40? The participants in the new year program should pay less than the guests. The discussion lead to this answer. Everyone pays the same price. The New Year’s program is from the youth, to the youth. If to consider everyone who is participating in the New Year program, then about half of the people will need a discount, or go for free. The members of the committee voted whether to keep the same price, or to give the discounts to the participants. The majority voted to keep the price same. If financial aid is needed, or for any questions, please talk to Denis.

The topics that were discussed at the meeting were summer camp, Christmas musical, caroling, leader’s retreat, the selling of the Christmas trees, and New Year Program 2010.

  • Summer Camp – 6/18-28/2010
    • SSBC 2010 Summer Camp will happen in June, between 18th and 28th. The actual dates have not been set due to the fact that we are still figuring out whether we should do 2 camps or keep 1 camp for all. The benefit from the 2 camps is the less people and more interaction between the youth. This Saturday, some of the leaders and Denis will go to the site to check out the place, and to decide whether the place is big enough for one camp or two. Also, the list of speakers was created for the youth camp. If anyone would like to hear a certain speaker, please comment below, or let Denis or one of the youth leaders know.
  • Christmas Musical – 12/23/2009
    • This year, the group of Sergey Denisevich has a surprise for us. For December 23, instead of our usual groups, we will be having a Christmas musical! The program begins at 7pm in the main sanctuary. The admission is FREE and anyone can come. The program ends approximately at 9pm. After the musical, the group is inviting everyone to transfer into the 2nd part of the building, for tea and sweets. Attention to the youth: this will be a potluck event, so please bring something light, or sweets for tea. Set the date in your calendars and invite your friends!
  • Caroling 12/24/2009
    • This year, the youth groups are getting together to go caroling. The list of the families that wants to be visited will be made. If anyone would like our youth to visit their family, please let Denis Samodarov know.
  • Leader’s Retreat – Late January, early February
    • Last year’s leader’s retreat went extremely well. Everything that was created in the 2009 plan was completed, so a new plan needs to be written up. Also, leaders were encouraged to seek out any people they see in church who have the potential for a helper or a future leader. Also, one of the things that Denis wants to talk about is to have a seminar for spiritual growth for the whole youth. If anyone has any suggestions for next year, please comment or let us know.
  • Christmas trees
    • Starting this Friday, as a fundraiser, the missionary team will be selling Christmas trees on the parking lot. Anyone who is interested in helping to sell the trees, please contact Lyana Tagintsev, or Igor Khashchuk.
  • New Year’s Program
    • The theme for this year is Vintage style. There is a lot of planning for this year’s New Year program. The gates to parking lot will open at 10:30 pm and the program for New Years will begin at 11:30 pm and will continue into the night. The program includes great food, enlightening word, a lottery with awesome prizes, (one of the prizes is an iPod Touch), a photo studio, talent show, art gallery, live music, and more. The dress code is Vintage style, but it is not a requirement to dress up. Please have appropriate clothing. The price for the event is $40. The tickets will go on sale this Sunday, unless we run into any complications. For any questions pertaining to New Year’s, please come up to me or Lyana Tagintsev.

In closing, Denis asked for the leaders to keep looking for new youth who are willing to participate in the planning of youth events and activities. Denis also mentioned to the leaders, to notice anyone who has newly repented, to come up to them and encourage them spiritually. He also mentioned the people who have left the church for any reason whatsoever, to be loving and considerate towards them and call them back into the church. We are all one body with many members, and every member of the body is important, not matter how small they may seem.

October Youth Committee Update

StarsHello fellow CALinChrist followers. Here is the moment that you have been waiting for. The time where I post the information that was discussed on our last youth committee meeting (10/20/2009). The meeting began with Denis reading from the Bible to get our Spiritual food and to set our minds and hearts on God. The passage that he read was Ephesians 1:15-23, for those of you who are interested. Then, topics like last Sunday’s youth service, crusade, and New Year’s preparations were discussed.

  • This past youth service’s positive and negative attributes were discussed. Some of the positive were the great organization of the kitchen and the performance of the band. There weren’t many negatives, but the suggestions that some of the members offered were to see into a different topic, and to cut the time on the lectures. Overall, Denis was impressed by how well Aleksey was well prepared with the presentations.
  • This Sunday 10/25, our youth choir is visiting Bethel church. We will NOT be having youth service this Sunday in SSBC. Instead, the youth service will be moved to Bethel church. For address or directions, find the “Upcoming Events” on the right, and click Bethel Church. Or you can just click here.
  • Crusade information stays the same. If you have any questions, need an application, or have no idea what is going on, refer to Crusade Info. If you still have any questions, you are welcome to contact Denis for more information. Don’t forget, applications are due November 8th. If you are still planning to go, turn in your application along with $40 to Vlad Shestopal or Julie Tolok.
  • The preparations for New Year’s have begun! So far we have the decorations set. The theme for New Year’s shall be Vintage style, with red, white, and silver colors. The team for New Years is ready to get things done. The organizers for this New Year preparation are Lyana Tagintsev and Yana Chuprov, along with a great team of helpers, such as Vlad Shestopal, Sveta Zakharova, and many others. We will be having our meeting sometime this or next week. The price for new years is still unknown. If anyone has any suggestions, please post them on the forum under the New Years thread.

My Introduction

Psalm 93Hello, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Yana Chuprov, and I have been a member of Second Slavic Baptist Church since December 2005 (day of my baptism), but I have been going to SSBC ever since it was still with First Slavic Baptist Church. When I received my baptism, I was just another member of the church, but I was not involved in any of the activities it had to offer. I started my involvement with youth when I joined into Joseph Donchenko’s group in 2005. At first, I was just attending, but wasn’t really doing anything. Then, summer of 2006, I had an opportunity to be a leader in the summer youth camp. It was all so new to me. I was a little scared, but I was eager to try it. Once I tried it, I knew that working with youth is my passion. I have been involved with youth ever since.

I have been a member of the Youth Committee since 2006, right after the youth camp. I began to be involved in many activities, such as being a helper in groups, and assisting in whatever the committee needed help with. I have been a leader in camps every summer since 2006, and no matter how stressful it is, I love every single moment of it. About 2 years ago or so, I had an opportunity to start a group, called Young Women’s Ministry. Few ladies and I get together to work out a study guide for the girls. This group lets girls of all ages to come together once a month, and read bible, discuss topics like dating, marriage, single life, etc., in a comfortable atmosphere (AKA no guys ;-) we love you, but we need some time with ourselves too.) As of right now, we are discovering the book of James. It is awesome because it talks about how to deal with trials and temptation, and many other wonderful topics.

Aside from Young Women’s Ministry, I have helped out with Wednesday Groups. Although due to college, I have put that on pause. I also love dealing with teens, which is why I have joined Skala. As a member of the committee, I help out with many activities. Starting from decorating, to planning activities. My objective with CALinChrist is to post Committee Updates twice a month. Plans, trips, special events, and anything important will be included in my updates. I hope to keep you all in the loop as to what is happening with our youth.
